Energy Paintings from India

I’ve always been a spiritual person from very early on and this has only developed over the years. I can only say thankyou to the wonderful subcontinent of India for much of my spiritual joy over 20 years of traveling around this amazing country.

India is a country unlike any other chaotic colourful and vibrant, but what is so special is it is the most spiritual country I have found both on the inside and the outside. The rich tradition of spiritual hierarchy, masters, spiritual guides and organizations remain virtually intact from there origins thousands of years ago. Sure there is the usual mix of charlatans, pretenders and con men, but amongst the dust and chaos are some real and truly phenomenal places and people imbued with a hypnotic and captivating spiritual aura. As well as the famous sites and temples from well back in history there are modern and new sites of spiritual significance developing from within this century and they are quite amazing. Some places, particularily the old are strewn with karmic burdens of the crowds and all the usual trappings of a money making site.

Within India I have found some real gems and it is here I have set about a project to capture the energy of these sites. These sites convey an extreme sense of peace, oneness and inner quality of life. The sites are uplifting, provocative and are inspirational. They can help evoke in the visitor a new sense of purpose within life and lead you in new directions.

The new series of paintings which is a project I shall be working on for several years are Energy Paintings from India.

As Art has ventured into its new found freedoms this century it like everything else has been commercialised, simplified and turned into a series of logical brands. This new modern path for art lacks the depth that I look for in art and is graphically accomplished in some cases it is only part of the passing show and is only of short term interest a tickle of the fancy.

This new project is a continuation of my previous works to work towards the depths of life, it’s inner sanctuary and meaning which has been sought by so many.

When I was in India during the winter I painted many of the energy paintings actually on the sites of spiritual energy which I was seeking. Some of them I did in a room I stayed in nearby on the same site. When I visit these sites I am in a wonderful space and my energy body dances to the tune of this uplifting and stimulating energy. When I paint the paintings at the site it is a truly wonderful experience, it is as if my mind is absorbed into the site, my spiritual energy is uplifted and the painting becomes quite automatic, fully inspired by the site and its reaction on the body. There is very little mind present in the painting and I am at the end of it quite ecstatic by the result.

It was very interesting after I had painted these paintings in India as many people would be drawn to visit my room to see the paintings and I would have a hard job to hang onto them on the way back to my little room. Many people seeing only a glimpse of the colourful work on the dirt path back to my quarters would instantly wish to buy the paintings, but I was quite attached to them, they shone so brightly to me in the powerful Indian light. In the usual typical dilema I was quite perplexed as my trips to India were also about selling my work at various exhibitions. I was in my usual state of not quite knowing but in the end I did relent to pressure and I did sell some of the paintings to some of the most persistent visitors.

Many of the paintings went to spiritually aware people who had inner sight or hearing and they bought them for use as afocus for mediation to see beyond the physical. As many of these people had inner hearing, they were quite tuned into the site and the spiritual master who had resided there. Many people would turn up on spec at the door askiing about a painting they needed from me and their inner guide had led them to the door. When people turn up at the door guided only by their inner guide to ask for a painting, it was quite hard to say no, as you couldn’t really argue with this one, it was obviously meant to be. I returned to the UK in April and the difference is always quite stark when you leave these [places and these concentrations of spiritually aware people. It takes a bit of getting used to as life and coincidence slows down and normallity returns. I spent the summer working on the energy paintings and sunflowers and poppies to save me until the next trip to India.

I am visiting India again in the winter and having worked from these images I am now ready to sell some of them which will alow me the oppertunty to work again on some new energy paintings in a new area.
